About MonetrixOS
We build finance tools that you own outright — no bank connections, no subscription, no server holding your balances.
It started as one person's sheet
MonetrixOS began because the available apps could not answer a simple question: how much money do I actually have?
Getting paid in one currency, paying rent in another and saving in a third broke every tracker we tried. They either refused to connect to a foreign bank, converted everything at today's rate and quietly rewrote last year, or wanted a monthly fee for the privilege.
So the first version was a personal spreadsheet — ugly, but honest. Friends asked for a copy. Then friends of friends. When the list of people asking passed a hundred, we stopped treating it as a side project and built it properly: validation, a sidebar app, four languages and documentation worth reading.
The principle has not changed since that first sheet. Your financial history is yours. It should live in a file you control, in a format you can open in ten years, and it should keep working whether or not the company that made it does.
What we will never do
- Ask for your bank login
- Store your balances on our servers
- Sell or share your data — we do not have it
- Lock you out of a file you paid for
- Turn a one-time purchase into a subscription
Four principles behind every release
-
Ownership over convenience
A one-click bank sync is convenient right up to the day the provider shuts down or raises its price. A file in your Drive does neither.
-
Honest numbers
Historical rates are stored, not recalculated. Transfers are not spending. A figure you cannot trace back to a row is a figure we will not print.
-
Built for more than one country
Multiple currencies and right-to-left layouts are not add-ons we bolted on later. They were in the design from the second version.
-
Small enough to keep using
A tracker you abandon in week three is worth nothing. Every feature has to survive the test of being used one-handed on a phone.
Four people, one spreadsheet
Small on purpose. Everyone here answers support email, including on release week.
How we got here
Four years from a personal spreadsheet to a template used in 58 countries.
The first sheet
Built for one household juggling three currencies. Shared privately with about forty people.
MonetrixOS v1
Rebuilt as a proper template with validation, a dashboard and documentation. First paying customers.
Multi-currency engine
Stored historical rates and consolidated net worth — the feature that made the template usable outside one country.
Mobile sidebar and four languages
Phone-first entry, plus French, Arabic and Spanish with right-to-left support.
Loans, lenders and households
Debt tracking in both directions and per-member reporting for families sharing one sheet.
